Ante las altas temperaturas registradas este verano se recomienda a vecinos, vecinas y visitantes tomar recaudos para evitar golpes de calor, en especial para los adultos mayores, los niños y las personas con enfermedades crónicas.
Uno de los aspectos más importantes es el consumo de líquido a lo largo de todo el día, incluso aunque no se tenga la sensación de sed propiamente dicha. Es preferible la hidratación con agua fresca y no ingerir infusiones calientes, bebidas alcohólicas ni muy azucaradas.
La exposición al sol debe ser también cuidadosa, ante lo cual se aconseja que tanto los niños como los adultos mayores eviten permanecer al sol en la franja de las 10.00 hasta las 16.00. También se recomienda alimentarse con frutas y verduras, y vestir ropa clara y fresca.
En el caso de los bebés menores de seis meses de edad, se recomienda que la mamá le dé el pecho con mayor frecuencia que la habitual. En cuanto a los niños mayores de seis años, es conveniente ofrecerles líquidos en forma constante para evitar la deshidratación.
EL GOLPE DE CALOR
El golpe de calor es producto de la pérdida de agua y sales esenciales que el cuerpo humano necesita para el buen funcionamiento. Fiebre, sed intensa, sensación de calor sofocante, piel seca, dolor de estómago, falta de apetito y náuseas, dolor de cabeza, mareos e incluso desmayo, pueden ser algunos de sus síntomas.
Particularmente en los bebés, también se puede observar la piel irritada por la transpiración en el cuello, pecho, axilas, pliegues del codo y en la zona del pañal, irritabilidad y llanto.
Si bien cualquier persona puede sufrir un golpe de calor, los más vulnerables son los bebés; los niños pequeños; los mayores de 65 años de edad y quienes padecen enfermedades crónicas, respiratorias o cardíacas; hipertensión arterial; obesidad y diabetes.
